Taekwondo is the Korean martial art of self defence, with it’s earliest known forms being practiced over 2000 years ago. It has also evolved into a highly competetive Olympic Sport.

“Tae” means to jump or kick or smash with the feet, “Kwon” means to block, punch, strike or smash with the hand or fist and “Do” means the art or way. Thus Taekwondo is “The Way of the Hand and Foot” involving the skilled application of techniques that include punches, strikes, kicks, blocks, locks, takedowns, dodges and interceptions with the bare hands, arms and feet to swiftly overpower an opponent.

Taekwondo is more than merely the
use of skilled movements, it also
implies a way of life and thinking,
particularly in instilling a concept
and spirit of strict self-imposed
discipline and an ideal of noble
morality.
